Citizens wishing to provide assistance to Officer Ciccone may make a donation directly to FISH

The City Of Sanibel issued the following news release at 3:41/E today.

“A designated fund has been established at F.I.S.H. in response to inquiries the City of Sanibel has received as to how assistance can be provided to Sanibel Police Office Jarred Ciccone, who was shot last evening in the line-of-duty. Officer Ciccone, age 43, has been a member of Sanibel Police Department since January 8, 2007.

When announcing the establishment of the Fund Sanibel Mayor Kevin Ruane stated, “Sanibel is a very generous community and we are very proud of our excellent Police Department. We are pleased that FISH is providing this option for citizens who choose to make a donation.”

In September 2007 Officer Ciccone was issued a Life Saving Award when he successfully interceded in an attempted suicide situation. Officer Ciccone was presented the Phoenix Life Saving Award in 2015 when he administered AED and CPR to an unresponsive female at an on-Island resort and saved her life.

Officer Ciccone has completed special advanced courses which qualify him for Senior officer status. He is also regularly recognized with perfect attendance awards.

At approximately 7:57 p.m. on November 20th, Officer Ciccone was shot by a passing motorist while completing a traffic citation in the vicinity of 2300 Periwinkle Way. Officer transported to the hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound to his shoulder. Officer Ciccone has subsequently released from the hospital.

The subject who shot the officer was arrested at his home after a shootout with police. The City of Sanibel activated the CODE RED system calling 497 phones in 7 minutes in the Dunes neighborhood with both “9-1-1 alerts” and later “all clear” messages.

This matter remains an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Assistance for the family is being coordinated between the City and F.I.S.H.
