Blind Pass Maintenance Dredging Scheduled.

The Captiva Erosion Prevention District issued the following news release regarding Blind Pass maintenance dredging currently scheduled for January 2017.

“In 2009, Lee County completed construction of the Blind Pass restoration project by opening previously closed Blind Pass.  Maintenance dredging was done on the gulf side in September 2012 where over 63,000 cubic yards of sand was removed.

In May 2013, dredging was done on the sound side where over 38,000 cubic yards of sand was removed.

On September 30, Lee County advertised a request for bids for additional maintenance dredging of Blind Pass. Bids will be accepted until November 2. Once they are evaluated, the bids will be submitted to the County Commissioners for final approval to start the work, most likely at their meeting of December 6.

Allowing enough time for mobilizing the equipment, the actual dredging is estimated to begin the first of the year and be completed no later than June 6, 2017 when the County’s permit expires.  The total volume of sand to be removed is estimated to be in excess of 100,000 cubic yards.”
