The Captiva Community Panel issued the following news release.
“On Thursday, April 21, Lee County will hold an informational meeting about the Blind Pass Inlet Management Plan beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Sanctuary clubhouse, 2801 Wulfert Road on Sanibel.
You should attend this meeting for two important reasons.
First: By showing up in force, you make it clear to local officials that those who live in, recreate in, and visit the Blind Pass EcoZone strongly support the Inlet Management Study and developing a science-based, long-term plan for keeping Blind Pass open.
Second: Lee County wants to know what the stakeholders in an open Blind Pass both value and observe. Before the study committee moves on to the next phase of modeling and calibrations, members want to make sure they haven’t overlooked something that we who use the Blind Pass waterways on a regular basis have noticed or experienced.
A presentation of the study status will be given at the beginning of the meeting, followed by a Q&A session. The April 21 meeting is the first of three planned stakeholder meeting and will be an introduction to the study. The following topics will be presented:
The study will evaluate options and provide recommendations for the ongoing management of Blind Pass and the adjacent beaches within its area of influence and will consider the collective input of the appropriate federal, state, and local governmental agencies. The study will be developed and utilized collaboratively by Lee County, Captiva Erosion Prevention District (CEPD), and the City of Sanibel with information to assist the
Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to adopt an Inlet Management Plan for Blind Pass with the support of the affected local governmental entities.”
