Construction On New Doc Ford’s On Sanibel

Construction On New Doc Ford’s On Sanibel Progressing.

Doc Ford’s is making progress on the construction of the new location across from Bailey’s.

After significant review and public hearings last year, the Sanibel Planning Commission and the Sanibel City Council approved the Doc Ford’s new location and construction.

Sanibel Rentals, 4-24-15, Proposed Tarpon Bay Location For Doc Ford’s Restaurant.

Representatives of Doc Ford’s stated that the lease in the current location was not being renewed, requiring Doc Ford’s to relocate to a new location.

James Jordan, City Of Sanibel Planning Director, stated that the planning staff did not object to the request for conditional approval of the Doc Ford’s location, in essence recommending the Planning Commission’s conditional approval, subject to specific conditions regarding sound proofing, and several other conditions.

Holly Milbrandt, Sanibel Natural Resources Director, also stated she was generally supportive of conditional approval.

Here’s some more background information from last year.

“The applicant seeks both Conditional Use and Development Permit approvals to allow for the development of a new 9,185 SF commercial building. The proposed commercial building will be occupied by a 214-seat restaurant and will also include an ancillary 700 SF bar and lounge.

The proposed restaurant and bar use, known as Doc Ford’s Rum Bar and Grille, will be developed on the vacant 2.4 acre Western parcel of the Bailey’s Shopping Center Planned Unit Development (PUD). Other related site improvements associated with the proposed restaurant and bar use will also include 122 off-street parking spaces, loading space for deliveries, enclosed solid waste container, facilities for bicycle parking, stormwater management and drainage features, central sewer connection, and the installation of additional interior landscaping and vegetation buffers.”  Complete document here.
