The Florida Department of Environmental Protection is holding a public meeting to discuss updates and progress for the Everglades West Coast Basin water-quality restoration plan.

The Everglades West Coast Basin restoration plan focuses on two water bodies in the basin, Hendry Creek and the Imperial River, which have an excess of nutrients.  Nutrients are naturally present in the water and necessary for the healthy growth of aquatic plant and animal life. Excess nutrients, however, can have a negative impact on the health of a water body. Department and local government representatives will discuss the progress report for this basin and review activities implemented during the last year of restoration, as well as ongoing and future future projects.

The Hendry Creek watershed is located in southwest Lee County. The Imperial River watershed is also located in Lee County, as well as areas within the city of Bonita Springs.
