Sanibel Hurricane Matthew Update #1

“The City of Sanibel continues to monitor Hurricane Matthew. Matthew is a powerful Category 4 hurricane approximately 1000 miles southeast of Sanibel with 150 mph sustained [winds]. It has started to turn to the north and should continue in that direction today and tonight.  Forecast track models have not changed much.  It still looks to be east of Florida by Tuesday or Wednesday. Given it’s current projected path, it’s likely Matthew will have little effect on Sanibel.

As a precaution, the City recommends that all residents begin initial preparation for their family’s safety and the protection of property. Now is the time to confirm that your family disaster plan is ready and you have a plan for evacuation, if the need arises. Check your hurricane supplies and make sure you have an adequate supply of required medications. Also, make sure you have a plan for your pets.

Residents, property owners, business owners, property managers and essential personnel please make sure you have the current Hurricane Re-Entry Passes. Colors that will be honored are:

RESIDENTIAL: PURPLE
COMMERCIAL: TAN
