Please see links to maps and full reports below for Red Tide, Florida Blue-Green Algal Blooms and Lake Okeechobee fresh water release information.
Red Tide
There is no presence of red tide in Sanibel Captiva’s waters as of July 8 (no presence throughout Florida at this time).
Please see the July 1 map below (map has not been updated for July 8, but that is because of no new presence in Florida) and link here to the complete Red Tide Report and weekly summary.

Blue-Green Algal Blooms
There is no presence of blue-green algal blooms in Sanibel Captiva’s waters as of July 8. There is significant presence in Florida, particularly on the east coast near the mouth of the St. Lucie River.
Please see the July 8 map below and link here to the complete Algal Bloom Report and weekly summary.

Lake Okeechobee Fresh Water Releases
There is some presence of dark fresh water plumes in the estuary from the current Lake Okeechobee fresh water releases, as there often has been over the last number of years during the summer fresh water releases.
Please see a 2013 photo below which is representative of a fresh water plume and link here to Sanibel Mayor Kevin Ruane’s water quality tracking update.
