Huge Redfish Schools Spawning Off Sanibel & Captiva!
Lot’s of reports of huge redfish schools numbering in the thousands on the bayside of Sanibel & Captiva.
According to FWC, “Large aggregations of red drum form every fall in nearshore Gulf waters to spawn.
Spawning typically starts in mid-September and continues for about two months.
Since 2009, biologists with the FWC’s Fish and Wildlife Research Institute have used aerial surveys to assess the distribution and number of spawning aggregations, as well as target aggregations for acoustic tagging.” Please see FWC Redfish Research.
The fishing for redfish (red drum), false albacore (bonita) and snook has been superb the last ten days or so!
