The City Of Sanibel Issues the following release.
Severe Weather Advisory
As of 5 am Department of Public Works (239-472-6397) & Sanibel City Hall (239-472-3700) are Open With Staff to take Calls & Deploy Personnel as Needed.
In Addition to Sanibel Police Department (Dispatch 239-472-3111 & 9-1-1)
“CURRENT FORECAST: Line of strong to severe thunderstorms approaching from the west and will cross our area before 6 or 7am. Thereafter, the severe weather threat ends. Expect gusty winds in excess of 60mph with some of the most intense storms. Isolated tornadoes are possible. Frequent lightning and torrential rain will accompany this line of storms.
Once the line moves through, no further severe weather is expected from this system.
A Tornado Watch is currently in effect until 8am for potential tornadoes. Severe thunderstorm warning for damaging wind potential through 5am.
After the line of storms pass through, expect temperatures to fall into the 60s for the duration of the day with sunshine returning. Winds will shift from the southwest this morning at 20mph from the northwest later this morning and this afternoon. Tonight’s low will be near 50 degrees, but windchill will be in the 40s and winds from the northwest at 10-20mph. Monday through Wednesday will give us sunshine with breezy conditions. Highs will be in the 60s and lows in the 40s.”
