The reception is being hosted by the City of Sanibel Historical Preservation Committee. Sanibel was incorporated in 1974 by a vote of the citizens. One of the leaders of Sanibel Incorporation was Porter Goss.
Porter Goss worked in the CIA as a young man in the 1960s and early 1970s.
After leaving the CIA, Mr. Goss and his family settled in Sanibel, Florida, where he was a small business owner and co-founder of a local newspaper. He was an active leader in the incorporation of the City of Sanibel in 1974 and was elected its first Mayor.
Mr. Goss went on to a long tenure serving in the Congress representing a district that included Sanibel. In 2004, late in his career, Mr. Goss returned to the Central Intelligence Agency as Director, before retiring and returning to Sanibel. Today, Mr. Goss continues to be focused and involved in Sanibel and environmental issues across Florida. PorterGoss.com
