Audubon Climate Report: National Audubon Society’s Clarion Call On Climate Changes Impact For Sanibel & Captiva Islands’ Birds
Climate change is drastically shrinking the habitat of 314 bird species in the continental United States and Canada, based upon a study by the National Audubon Society.
This will have a profound impact on the Southwest Florida ecosystem and its bird population.
The study states that “the Brown Pelican could lose 63 percent of its current non-breeding range and 58 percent of its breeding range by 2050. Its range may expand into new coastal areas by a whopping 89 percent, though how its prey fish will respond to climatic shifts is uncertain.”
