Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation 2015 Programs!
The Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) published their lineup of programs in 2015. The foundation has provided environmental education to visitors since its creation in the 60s.
The foundation has an exciting winter program of wildlife tales. Visitors have the opportunity to learn about everything from fresh faces on the island, coyotes and bears to longer standing residents like the bobcats and frogs.
A coyote and a Florida black bear were documented on the island for the first time last winter. Learn about the behaviors of both species and how coyotes have moved into every county in Florida. Both human and bear populations are growing in Florida. Eighty percent of a bear’s diet comes from insects and fruits. Learn more about these species Thursday, February 2 and Wednesdays, February 15 and 29 at 10 a.m. in the SCCF auditorium.
The foundation also provides dolphin and wildlife adventure cruises, native plant walks, Caloosahatchee oxbow and riverlore cruises and birding adventures. At the Nature center there is a butterfly house, open year-round, and a touch tank full of a variety of crabs and turtles.
In addition to the bear and coyote tales visitors can learn about numerous other species as well as how tides, currents the Florida Shelf and hurricanes affect the ecosystem of the islands.
Most programs are only 5$ per person and the touch tank is free with admission to the Nature Center. For more information check out the SCCF January 2015 program schedule. http://sccf.org/files/content/docs/Jan2015-Programs.pdf
