According to NBC 2, a panther was tranquilized and removed from the upscale neighborhood of Port Royal Naples Tuesday.
Frightened and shocked residents called 911 after they spotted the big cat which was believed to be two years old and 75 pounds.
While Bobcats are a known resident of Sanibel, panthers are not believed to inhabit the island–yet.
“‘The panther will be released in Picayune Strand State Forest. It’s a little farther from major roads, so we think that will be a safer option than Rookery Bay… No time frame yet, he’s still groggy,’ said Mark Lotz, a panther biologist for FWC.”
