Red Tide Report: No Red Tide Near Sanibel & Captiva, 10-11-14
The latest FWC statewide red tide report came out yesterday.
Positive news continues. There are no red tide conditions near Sanibel & Captiva.
Red Tide Status Report (October 10, 2014)
“Karenia brevis, the Florida red tide organism, was not detected in or alongshore of Bay, Franklin, Wakulla, Taylor, Dixie, and Pasco counties. Background to very low concentrations were detected along and offshore of Levy County.
However, satellite images from the Optical Oceanography Laboratory at the University of South Florida show blooms patches offshore of Franklin, Wakulla, Taylor, Dixie, and Levy counties.
Forecasts by the USF-FWC Collaboration for Prediction of Red Tides (CPR), a partnership between the University of South Florida’s College of Marine Science and the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission, show either no movement or slow NW movement of the offshore patches over the next three days. Based on these forecasts and observed red tide concentrations, no potential red tide effects within 5 km of shore are predicted.
Karenia brevis was detected in background to very low concentrations in four samples collected in and alongshore of Sarasota County, and in background concentrations in one sample collected alongshore of Charlotte County.
Other samples collected throughout Florida this week did not contain K. brevis.”
