Sanibel Causeway Traffic: Highest December Count Since Record Keeping Began in 1975.
Judy Zimomra, Sanibel City Manager, submitted the December 2015 Sanibel Causeway vehicular counts report to the Sanibel City Council.
“December 2015 total vehicles increased by 11,249 to 288,846 (+4.05%) as compared to December 2014.
It is noteworthy to mention that December 2015 ha[d] the highest recorded traffic for the month of December since traffic first [began to be] recorded in 1975.
The 2015 total is greater than every year from 203 to 2014. Furthermore, 2015 is an 11 year high with 3,334,431 vehicles crossing the Sanibel Causeway. The 2015 number of vehicles remains lower than [1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002]. It is noteworthy that higher percentage of total vehicles between 1998 and 2002 would have been related to the significant construction industry traffic which occurred during these years.”
