Sanibel Mayor & Fort Myers Mayor & Cape Coral Mayor Ask For Federal Assistance On Lake Okeechobee

The City Of Sanibel issued the following news release which included a request for federal assistance.

“Today, Sanibel Mayor Kevin Ruane , as well as Fort Myers Mayor Randy Henderson and Cape Coral Mayor Marni Sawicki, started three days of working the halls of Congress with a joint voice on the direr conditions created by the Lake Okeechobee releases.

The delegation is stressing the need to fund and construct long-term solutions to the Lake Okeechobee releases.   Today, the delegation met with Congress member Curt Clawson (Florida 19th District), representatives from United States Senator Marco Rubio’s office, and the other members of the Florida congressional delegations.”

The delegation requested the following federal assistance:
“Upon completing today’s meeting, Ruane stated, “I truly believe that presenting our case as a united coalition provides us our best opportunity to secure funding … we bring more clout when we represent an entire region of the third largest State in the country.
Today we are focusing on educating every Florida member of Congress on the issue and the history so that we can all focus on funding long-term solutions.  We need more than a plan…we need the allocations to build the plan.”
