The red tide bloom has moved south, well away from Sanibel & Captiva Islands.
It is expected to continue its south/southeast drift and continue to move away from Sanibel & Captiva.
Fishing guides are reporting no red tide issues, either inshore or offshore of Sanibel & Captiva
Here’s today’s FWC midweek update.
Red Tide Status (November 26, 2014)
“A bloom of the Florida red tide organism, Karenia brevis, persists in southwest Florida. Satellite images produced by the Optical Oceanography Laboratory at the University of South Florida show patches that extend approximately 40 miles alongshore and up to 50 miles offshore, depending on location, between Collier and Monroe counties. Karenia brevisconcentrations range from background to medium alongshore and offshore in the bloom area.
Forecasts by the USF-FWC Collaboration for Prediction of Red Tides (CPR), a partnership between the University of South Florida’s College of Marine Science and the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission, project slow southern movement of bloom waters over the next 3 days.”
