It feels like Sanibel & Captiva are going to have their biggest year since 2007.  The islands are already hopping in January.

Peak island traffic times are the morning and evening commute, so plan ahead.

Southwest Florida International Airport released December passenger traffic statistics and 2014 ended up close to surpassing 2007 record number of passengers.  If current trends continue 2015 should be the largest passenger traffic year ever for the airport.

“During December, 765,288 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport, an increase of 4 percent compared to December 2013. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 4.4 percent from the same period last year.

The traffic leader in December was Delta with 165,177 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Southwest (136,729), JetBlue (87,373), Spirit (78,692) and US Airways (74,980).

Southwest Florida International Airport served more than 7.9 million passengers in 2014 and is one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic.”
