Sanibel Requests $25,000 To Shore Up Sanibel-Captiva Road

Erosion May Threaten Sanibel-Captiva Road.

As reported by NBC 2.

Sanibel has requested $25,000 in emergency funding from the Lee County Tourist Development Council to shore up Sanibel-Captiva Road near Blind Pass.

“‘The erosion is only about 30 feet from the main road.

Obviously what we want to do is prevent any erosion of the road bed itself and putting the actual condition of the road in danger – right now we’re no where near that but we want to be prepared in case we do see the erosion get closer,’ said City of Sanibel Public Works Director Keith Williams.

The city is requesting $25,000 in emergency funds from the TDC.

The money would be used to purchase and haul in sand. Crews would dump sand on top of the existing wall.

Called a precautionary measure, city officials hope Mother Nature will fix the problem. The TDC will vote to approve or deny the emergency funds on Thursday.

If they do approve it – than work can start immediately.”
