Sanibel Storm Status Update As of 1:13 p.m., Friday, January 15, 2016

The City Of Sanibel issued the following release.

“After receiving 4.17 inches of rain over the past 24 hours, of which 3.5 inches has been recorded since 8 a.m., the City of Sanibel is currently experiencing isolated instances of on street flooding. As the rains pass the water is quickly receding from our roadways.

The heaviest impacted areas are West Gulf Drive, portions of Middle Gulf Drive, the entrance to East and West Rocks, Sanibel Boulevard, and Periwinkle Way in the vicinity of Dixie Beach Road to Fitzhugh Court, and Periwinkle Way in the vicinity of Casa Ybel. We have also experienced some road erosion of the roadway at Lighthouse Beach Park and Woodring Road.

At this time the roadway to the Sanibel Fishing Pier and Lighthouse Beach gulf-side parking lot remain open to the public. MOTORISTS ARE ADVISED TO PROCEED WITH CAUTION ON ANY ROADWAYS WHERE THERE IS STANDING WATER.

Currently the City of Sanibel of Department Public Works is currently removing limbs at several locations that have fallen on the City’s extensive Shared Use Path system. Residents are urged to email the Department of Public Works sanpw@mysanibel.com to report any limbs down on the paths.

The Sanibel Police Department strongly urges all residents and visitors to closely monitor the media weather forecasts until the threat of severe weather has cleared.”
